About Abbotsford

Abbotsford is a peaceful harbourside suburb in Sydney's Inner West, located 10 kilometres west of the CBD on the Parramatta River. With a population of around 5,400, it sits on a peninsula between Abbotsford Bay and Hen and Chicken Bay. The suburb takes its name from Abbotsford House, built in 1890 by Sir Arthur Renwick and named after Sir Walter Scott's Scottish home. Approximately 66% of residents are Australian-born, with significant Italian and English communities.

Known for its stunning waterfront views and tranquil atmosphere, Abbotsford offers a relaxed lifestyle close to the city. The historic Abbotsford House is now heritage-listed, while the former NestlΓ© chocolate factory site has been redeveloped as the medium-density Abbotsford Cove housing complex. Local amenities include the Abbotsford Sailing Club, Sydney Rowing Club, and several school rowing sheds. The suburb features Henry Lawson Park and local cafes along Great North Road. Families and professionals appreciate the village feel and excellent transport connections.

Abbotsford falls under postcode 2046 and is governed by Canada Bay Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Drummoyne electorate.
