ACT Remainder - Kowen is a sparsely populated locality in the eastern ACT, covering approximately 77 square kilometres of pine forest and conservation land between Canberra and the NSW border near Queanbeyan. The 2021 Census recorded just 25 residents across the locality, which is dominated by the Kowen Forest — a large pine plantation managed for timber production and recreational use. The area sits east of Majura and south of the Gungahlin district, adjacent to the Hume highway corridor.
Kowen Forest is a popular recreation destination for Canberra mountain bikers, with an extensive trail network managed through the ACT Government's Kowen Pines trail system. The forest also offers trail running, dog walking, and orienteering. Nearby Queanbeyan (approximately 10 kilometres north) provides the closest town services. Access to the locality is via Majura Road or the Federal Highway, with no public transport serving the area.
