About Aitkenvale

Aitkenvale is a major commercial and residential hub located 7.6 kilometres southwest of Townsville CBD in North Queensland. With a population approaching 5,000, it serves as the city's secondary commercial centre, often called "Townsville's second CBD". Named after Thomas Aitken who subdivided the land in 1885, the suburb sits on traditional Wulgurukaba country and features a mix of retail, residential and light industrial areas.

The suburb is dominated by Stockland Townsville, the city's largest shopping centre, along with numerous commercial offices and services. Residents enjoy excellent retail amenities, proximity to Ross River parklands for walking and cycling, and good access to the University and hospital precinct. The Townsville Golf Club, Queensland's oldest, calls Aitkenvale home. The area attracts families, workers and investors who value convenience and central location within the greater Townsville region.

Aitkenvale falls under postcode 4814 and is governed by Townsville Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Mundingburra electorate.
