About Apsley
Apsley is a small rural locality in south-west Victoria, situated along the Wimmera Highway within the West Wimmera Shire Council area, close to the South Australian border. It lies approximately 28 kilometres west of Edenhope and around 400 kilometres west of Melbourne, covering some 332 square kilometres of flat to gently undulating farming country. The locality has a population of around 324 residents, and the local economy is centred on dryland cropping and livestock grazing typical of the Wimmera plains.
Apsley is home to the Apsley Golf Club, whose 18-hole course with sand greens is regarded as one of the more scenic in the region, set among native wattles and attended by abundant birdlife and wildlife. The surrounding landscape is quintessential Wimmera — wide open plains, grain crops, and sheep pastures under a vast sky. Residents travel to Edenhope for most services, including the Edenhope and District Memorial Hospital, while Naracoorte in South Australia is also within reach for larger shopping trips.
Apsley falls under postcode 3319 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Lowan (Western Victoria) electorate.
