The locality covers around 28 square kilometres and had a population of 303 at the 2021 Census. Barrine lies near the shores of Lake Tinaroo, a large man-made reservoir formed in the 1950s, and is surrounded by tropical farming land and remnant rainforest on the fertile tableland plateau.
