The locality lies on low-lying land to the east of the Johnstone River, with the Palmerston Highway forming its western boundary where it meets the Bruce Highway at the northern tip. With a population of 943 at the 2021 census, Belvedere supports a mix of suburban housing and agricultural land, predominantly given over to sugarcane farming. The median household income of around 9,610 reflects the predominantly working-class, agricultural character of the area.
The locality takes its name from a 1980s land development project — belvedere referring to the good views from the elevated areas of the estate.
