About Bidgeemia
Bidgeemia is a remote rural locality in the central Riverina region of New South Wales, situated approximately 19 kilometres west of Urangeline East and 21 kilometres east of Urana. With a tiny 2021 Census population of just 32 residents spread across around 232 square kilometres, it is one of the most sparsely populated localities in the state. The area is characterised by flat, open pastoral farmland typical of the Riverina, and falls under the Federation Council local government area.
Life in Bidgeemia is quintessentially rural — dominated by sheep and grain farming on vast pastoral stations. Community ties are strong despite the small population, with historical links to the now-closed Bidgeemia Public School (closed 1972) and a shared community hall and church that once served as social anchors for surrounding farms. Residents rely heavily on private vehicles, with the nearest significant services located in Urana or Lockhart. The locality attracts those who value wide open spaces, agricultural heritage, and the tranquillity of the outback fringe.
Bidgeemia falls under postcode 2642 and is governed by Federation Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Wagga Wagga electorate.
