Biggara is a small rural locality in the Victorian Alps foothills, situated approximately 420 kilometres north-east of Melbourne near the town of Corryong in the Upper Murray region. The locality covers around 167 square kilometres of high country grazing land and recorded a population of approximately 61 residents at the 2021 Census. The landscape features elevated mountain country and river valleys in the Snowy Mountains foothills region near the NSW border.
Corryong, approximately 20 kilometres to the north-east, provides the main services for the Upper Murray district including a hospital, school, and general store, and is known as the home of the Man from Snowy River. The area offers spectacular high country scenery, excellent trout fishing in the upper Murray River tributaries, and access to the Victorian Alps ski fields and national parks. A private vehicle is essential as no public transport serves the locality.
