About Binalong Bay
Binalong Bay is a small coastal locality in north-east Tasmania, situated at the southern gateway to the iconic Bay of Fires conservation area, approximately 12 kilometres north-east of the town of St Helens. It falls within the Break O'Day Council local government area and covers approximately 44 square kilometres of coastal bushland and beachfront. With a permanent population of around 290 to 330 residents that swells significantly in summer, Binalong Bay is as much a beloved holiday destination as it is a residential community.
Binalong Bay is famed for its crystal-clear turquoise waters, pristine white sand beaches, and the striking burnt-orange lichen-covered granite boulders that have made the Bay of Fires one of Australia's most photographed coastlines. The locality serves as the base for the Bay of Fires Walk, a celebrated multi-day guided wilderness experience. A small local shop and cafe serve day-to-day needs, while St Helens — just a short drive away — provides supermarkets, a hospital, schools, and broader regional services.
Binalong Bay falls under postcode 7216 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Lyons (McIntyre) electorate.
