The locality covers around 93 square kilometres of flat Riverina plains and recorded a population of approximately 59 residents at the 2021 Census. The area is part of the lower Murrumbidgee irrigation district, supporting rice cultivation, sheep, and beef cattle grazing in a semi-arid climate.
Deniliquin, approximately 25 kilometres to the south, is the main service centre for the district providing a hospital, schools, supermarkets, and is known as the rice-growing capital of Australia and home of the Deni Ute Muster music festival. The surrounding Riverina plains are vast, flat, and productive, with irrigation from the Murrumbidgee system. A car is the only practical transport in Birganbigil.
