Boonara is a small rural locality in the South Burnett region of Queensland, situated approximately 250 kilometres north-west of Brisbane near the town of Murgon. The locality covers around 87 square kilometres of mixed farming and grazing country and recorded a population of approximately 60 residents at the 2021 Census. The area is part of the South Burnett agricultural district known for beef cattle, grain sorghum, and some of Queensland's emerging wine production.
Murgon, approximately 15 kilometres to the north, provides local services including shops, schools, and community facilities, while Kingaroy (roughly 40 kilometres to the south-east) is the main regional centre for the South Burnett. The surrounding area is characterised by open farming country with scattered bottle trees and typical Queensland brigalow vegetation. A car is essential as no public transport serves the locality.
