Borung is a small rural locality in north-central Victoria, situated approximately 240 kilometres north of Melbourne near the town of Donald in the Buloke Shire. The locality covers around 118 square kilometres and recorded a population of approximately 59 residents at the 2021 Census. The area is part of the flat Mallee farming country of the Buloke district, used extensively for cereal cropping and sheep grazing on the flat northern Victorian plains.
Donald, approximately 15 kilometres to the west, is the main service centre for the Buloke Shire providing a hospital, schools, supermarkets, and community facilities, and is known for the Donald Harvest Festival celebrating the district's agricultural heritage. The surrounding mallee and box woodland country is typical of the northern Victorian dryland farming zone. A private vehicle is essential.
