About Bunjil
Bunjil is an extremely remote and sparsely settled rural locality in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, situated approximately 340 kilometres north-east of Perth near the town of Morawa. The locality covers around 1,928 square kilometres — a vast expanse of wheatbelt farmland, mallee scrub, and salt lakes. With a 2021 Census population of approximately 61 residents, it is one of the most lightly populated localities in Western Australia.
Morawa, approximately 40 kilometres to the west, provides the nearest services including a general store, school, and limited facilities. The surrounding wheatbelt is characterised by broad flat plains, seasonal salt lakes, and the distinctive landscapes of the WA interior. Spring wildflowers are a notable feature of the region. A private vehicle is the only practical means of transport.
