About Calliope

Calliope is a semi-rural township situated approximately 24 kilometres southwest of Gladstone in Central Queensland's industrial heartland. With a population of around 5,200 spread across a generous 183 square kilometres, it offers a country lifestyle with convenient access to the economic opportunities of the Gladstone region. The town was formerly the headquarters of Calliope Shire before the 2008 amalgamation into Gladstone Regional Council.

The township preserves Central Queensland's pastoral heritage through the Calliope Historical Village, which hosts popular monthly markets on the last Sunday of each month. Golf enthusiasts appreciate the challenging 18-hole course at the local Country Club, while nature lovers explore the surrounding native bushland and horse riding trails. Families and retirees are drawn to Calliope's affordable housing, spacious blocks, and slower pace of life while remaining connected to Gladstone's port, industry, and services.
