About Condong
Condong is a small rural locality in the Tweed Valley of far northern New South Wales, situated on the banks of the Tweed River within the Tweed Council local government area. Located approximately 4 kilometres north of Murwillumbah and just 10 kilometres from the Queensland border, the locality covers a compact area of around 3.8 square kilometres with a population of 314 residents. The area is characterised by lush subtropical farmland typical of the Tweed Valley, where sugarcane fields spread across the floodplain alongside the river.
Condong is best known for the historic Condong Sugar Mill, which has operated on the banks of the Tweed River since 1880 and remains one of the region's most significant industrial heritage landmarks. The mill processes sugarcane grown across thousands of hectares of local farmland and is a central part of the Tweed Valley's agricultural identity. Murwillumbah, the nearest major township, provides everyday services, schools, and transport links, while the scenic Mount Warning and Wollumbin National Park are within easy driving distance. The area appeals to those who value a rural, community-oriented lifestyle in one of Australia's most beautiful subtropical river valleys.
Condong falls under postcode 2484 and is governed by the Tweed Council (Local Government Area). For federal elections, residents vote in the electorate of Richmond, while state elections fall under the Tweed electorate.
