About Coolringdon

Coolringdon is a historic rural locality in the Monaro region of southern New South Wales, situated approximately 12 kilometres west of Cooma and 124 kilometres south of Canberra, within the Snowy Monaro Regional Council area. The locality covers a substantial 108 square kilometres of open Monaro tablelands and had a population of 73 at the 2021 Census. Coolringdon takes its name from a sheep station established in 1829, one of the earliest colonial settlements in the Monaro, on land that was home to the Ngarigo people for thousands of years.

The well-preserved Coolringdon Homestead, now over 190 years old, is managed by the John and Betty Casey Research Trust as a working farm and heritage site, featuring a heritage garden and historic schoolhouse. A striking modern landmark, the Snowy River Sphere — a steel sculpture made from recycled Skitube railway materials — marks the gateway to the Snowy Mountains beside the Kosciuszko Road. Coolringdon also hosts the Cooma-Snowy Mountains Airport within its boundaries. The surrounding Monaro plains offer superb pastoral scenery, with the Snowy Mountains ski fields at Perisher and Thredbo within an easy drive.

Coolringdon falls under postcode 2630 and is governed by the Snowy Monaro Council (Local Government Area). For federal elections, residents vote in the electorate of Eden-Monaro, while state elections fall under the Monaro electorate.
