About Cororooke
Cororooke is a small town in Victoria's south-west, situated within the Colac Otway Shire approximately 25 kilometres north-west of Colac. With a 2021 Census population of 358, the town covers just under 18 square kilometres and maintains a tight-knit community character amidst the rolling dairy country between Colac and Camperdown. The area has historically been anchored by the agricultural and dairy industries, with the Cororooke Dairy Factory once serving as the town's major employer.
Despite its modest size, Cororooke has a surprisingly vibrant community life. The Red Rock Regional Theatre and Gallery, established in 2011 within a former church, hosts film screenings, live theatre, a bistro restaurant, and an op shop, drawing visitors from the wider region. The Cororooke Hall and a two-hectare public open space with a playground and barbecue facilities — donated to the community when the dairy factory closed — provide further gathering points. A general store and post office cover basic needs, while Colac is the nearest centre for larger shopping and services.
Cororooke falls under postcode 3254 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Polwarth (Western Victoria) electorate.
