Crooked Corner has a notable gold mining history: alluvial gold was discovered in 1861 and reef gold in 1871, with the Palmer Gold and Silver Mining Company operating a battery there in the late 1880s. Today the locality is purely agricultural, with grazing, wool, and seed potato farming typical of the district. The nearest town is Crookwell, approximately 30 kilometres to the south-east, which provides residents with shops, schools, and essential services.
