About Dublin
Dublin is a small country town on the Adelaide Plains in South Australia, situated 61 kilometres north of the Adelaide CBD along Highway 1 within the Adelaide Plains Council area. With a population of 405 residents in 2021 — having grown from 241 in 2006 — the town has attracted a modest wave of commuters and rural families drawn to its semi-rural setting and affordable land prices relative to the Adelaide metropolitan area. Dublin lies in the County of Gawler, surrounded by flat agricultural land used for cropping, grazing, and market gardening.
Dublin is home to the South Australian Livestock Exchange saleyards, one of the state's most significant facilities for sheep, lamb, pig, and cattle trading, which underpins the town's agricultural economy. The Gulf St Vincent coastline lies just to the west, with beach localities such as Webb Beach and Thompson Beach within a short drive, providing a coastal escape for residents. Highway 1 provides straightforward access to Adelaide for work, shopping, and services, while Mallala (16 kilometres to the east) and Gawler (45 kilometres to the south-east) offer closer regional facilities.
Dublin falls under postcode 5501 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Frome electorate.
