About Dumgree
Dumgree is a remote pastoral locality in central Queensland, situated approximately 60 kilometres north-west of Emerald in the Central Highlands Regional Council area. Covering an extensive 793 square kilometres, the locality encompasses the flat to gently undulating brigalow and eucalyptus woodland country typical of central Queensland's pastoral belt, where large-scale beef cattle grazing on extensive stations defines the land use. With a population of around 63 residents, Dumgree is a very sparsely settled outback community in Queensland's Central Highlands.
Emerald, the regional centre to the south-east, provides supermarkets, a hospital, secondary schools, and airport connections, and is the main service hub for the Central Highlands mining and agricultural region. The Central Highlands is known for its coal mining industry, major irrigation schemes drawing on the Nogoa River, and the productive cotton and grain farming that has transformed the region in recent decades. Dumgree suits those engaged in large-scale beef cattle operations who value the wide-open outback character of central Queensland.
Dumgree falls under postcode 4715 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Callide electorate.
