About Gardners Bay
Gardners Bay is a quiet rural residential locality on Tasmania's Huon Peninsula, situated within the Huon Valley Council local government area approximately 26 kilometres south-east of Huonville. The locality takes its name from the sheltered bay formed by Gardners Bay and Purcells Bay, both inlets of Port Cygnet, which define its western coastline. Covering nearly 20 square kilometres of coastal and hinterland terrain, the area had a population of approximately 346 residents at the 2021 Census and was formally gazetted as a locality in 1971.
The locality attracts those drawn to a secluded coastal lifestyle in one of Tasmania's most scenic and unhurried corners, with the bay offering opportunities for boating, fishing, and enjoying the pristine southern Tasmanian environment. Huonville is the nearest town for everyday services including supermarkets, schools, and medical care, while Hobart is approximately 65 kilometres to the north via the Huon Highway for more comprehensive urban services. Gardners Bay's charm lies in its combination of coastal beauty, peaceful surrounds, and proximity to the Huon Valley's renowned apple orchards and cool-climate produce region.
Gardners Bay falls under postcode 7112 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Franklin (Huon) electorate.
