About Georges Plains
Georges Plains is a small rural locality approximately 12 kilometres south of Bathurst in the Central West of New South Wales, within the Bathurst Regional Council area. Sitting on the traditional lands of the Wiradjuri people, the village was named by European settlers in honour of King George III and was the site of one of the earliest Government stock stations established in the region. The locality has a population of around 360 and is characterised by undulating pastoral farmland, historic homesteads, and the wide skies of the Central Tablelands. Its proximity to Bathurst gives residents easy access to a full range of regional services.
Georges Plains has a quiet, community-oriented character typical of small NSW villages in the Central West. The surrounding land is primarily used for sheep and cattle grazing, with some cropping enterprises, giving the area a distinctly agricultural feel. Residents are a mix of farming families and lifestyle property owners who appreciate the rural setting while being just a short drive from Bathurst's shops, hospitals, and schools. The locality benefits from Bathurst's growing economy and infrastructure investment, making it an appealing option for those seeking a country lifestyle within commuting distance of a regional centre.
Georges Plains falls under postcode 2795 and is governed by the Bathurst Council (Local Government Area). For federal elections, residents vote in the electorate of Calare, while state elections fall under the Orange electorate.
