About Gerroa
Gerroa is a small coastal town in the Municipality of Kiama, situated within the Illawarra region of New South Wales approximately 133 kilometres south of Sydney. With a population of 571, it occupies a picturesque position at the northern end of Seven Mile Beach and at the head of the Crooked River, making it one of the most scenically distinct localities on the NSW South Coast. The area is characterised by low-density holiday housing, a peaceful community atmosphere, and impressive views across Seven Mile Beach toward Mount Coolangatta.
Gerroa is a popular holiday escape and retirement haven, drawing visitors especially over Easter and the Christmas–New Year period when the caravan park and holiday homes fill with coastal seekers. The adjacent Seven Mile Beach National Park offers excellent birdwatching, bush walking, and fishing, while the beach itself is suited to surfing, windsurfing, hang gliding, and paragliding from the headland. The charming village of Gerringong lies just 3 kilometres away, and the larger town of Kiama provides residents with access to shops, schools, healthcare, and South Coast Line train services to Sydney.
Gerroa falls under postcode 2534 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Kiama electorate.
