About Goolhi
Goolhi is a remote rural locality in north-western New South Wales, situated approximately 430 kilometres north-west of Sydney within the Gunnedah Shire. Covering around 454 square kilometres of flat to undulating agricultural land in the Liverpool Plains district, the locality lies between Quirindi and Gunnedah in some of NSW's most fertile black soil farming country. With a 2021 Census population of 65 residents, Goolhi is an isolated farming community on the edge of the Liverpool Plains.
The rich dark soils of the Goolhi area support highly productive broadacre farming, including wheat, cotton, sorghum, and livestock grazing — part of the Liverpool Plains system that is among Australia's most significant agricultural assets. Gunnedah, approximately 50 kilometres to the north-west, serves as the regional hub with hospitals, schools, and the Gunnedah Koala population — one of Australia's largest urban koala colonies. Goolhi suits farming families engaged in the serious agricultural enterprises that define the Liverpool Plains district.
Goolhi falls under postcode 2379 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Tamworth electorate.
