About Hampton East
Hampton East is a compact inner-suburban locality in Melbourne's Bayside area, situated approximately 16 kilometres south-east of the CBD. With a population of around 5,069 residents spread across just 1.4 square kilometres, it is one of the denser neighbourhoods in the Bayside City Council area. Bordered by the Nepean Highway to the east and the leafy suburb of Hampton to the west, the area benefits from excellent road and public transport connections. Its proximity to Brighton, Sandringham, and Highett gives residents access to some of Melbourne's most sought-after lifestyle precincts.
Hampton East has a diverse, family-oriented community with a median age of 40 and a healthy mix of young families, established professionals, and long-term residents. The suburb offers a relaxed suburban lifestyle with easy access to Hampton Beach, local cafes, and parks including the popular G.L. Basterfield Reserve. Moorabbin Station is roughly a 10-minute walk away, connecting residents to the city via the Frankston line. The area's median weekly rent of $400 and competitive property prices make it an attractive entry point into the Bayside property market.
Hampton East falls under postcode 3188 and is governed by the Bayside Council (Local Government Area). For federal elections, residents vote in the electorate of Goldstein, while state elections fall under the Brighton (Southern Metropolitan) electorate.
