About Hepburn Springs
Hepburn Springs is a charming resort town in Victoria's Shire of Hepburn, situated 114 kilometres north-west of Melbourne and just 3 kilometres north of Daylesford, within the Wombat State Forest between the former volcanoes of Mt Franklin and Wombat Hill. The locality is renowned for being at the heart of Australia's largest concentration of mineral springs, attracting visitors and residents drawn to its spa and wellness culture. Despite a resident population of 368 at the 2021 Census, Hepburn Springs draws thousands of weekend visitors each year.
The town is defined by its Edwardian-era architecture — rebuilt after a devastating 1906 bushfire — and a thriving tourism economy centred on the Hepburn Bathhouse and Spa, mineral springs reserve, and a cluster of boutique accommodation, cafes, and wellness retreats. It sits adjacent to Daylesford, together forming one of Victoria's most popular weekend escape destinations from Melbourne. The traditional custodians of the land are the Dja Dja Wurrung people, and the region's gold-rush heritage is woven into its history.
Hepburn Springs falls under postcode 3461 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Macedon (Northern Victoria) electorate.
