About Invermay

Invermay is a residential suburb of Launceston in northern Tasmania, located approximately 3 km north of the Launceston city centre on the eastern side of the Tamar River. With a population of around 3,500 (2021 Census), it is a historically working-class suburb that is undergoing revitalisation, particularly with the University of Tasmania's campus relocation to the area. The community has a mix of long-term residents and a growing number of students and young professionals, with just under half of homes being owner-occupied.

Invermay is a cultural hub for Launceston, home to the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery (QVMAG) at the Inveresk Precinct, the Tramway Museum, and York Park (UTAS Stadium) where AFL and cricket matches are held. The award-winning Riverbend Park is a popular family destination, and the suburb offers convenient access to cafes, restaurants, and local shops. With the University of Tasmania expanding its presence, Invermay is emerging as a vibrant, youthful suburb that blends heritage character with new urban energy.

Invermay falls under postcode 7248 and is governed by Launceston Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Bass (Windermere) electorate.
