Jerramungup is a small agricultural town and locality in the Shire of Jerramungup, situated in the Great Southern region of Western Australia approximately 454 kilometres south-east of Perth. The town covers a vast area of 1,072 square kilometres on the edge of the Fitzgerald River National Park, with an elevation of around 322 metres above sea level. With a population of around 353 residents according to the 2021 Census, it remains one of the more remote townships in the state, serving the surrounding farming community of the Jerramungup District.
The town was established in 1953 to support a post-war soldier settlement scheme and retains a strong agricultural identity, with grain growing and grazing the dominant land uses in the area. Basic services including a school, general store, and community facilities serve local residents and passing travellers. The nearby Fitzgerald River National Park — a UNESCO-listed Biosphere Reserve recognised for its exceptional biodiversity — provides spectacular walking trails, coastal scenery, and rare wildflower displays, making Jerramungup a quiet base for nature enthusiasts exploring the remote south coast of Western Australia.
