About Kamarah
Kamarah is a small rural locality in the Narrandera Shire of New South Wales, situated in the heart of the Riverina region approximately 500 kilometres south-west of Sydney. The locality lies roughly 11 kilometres west of Ardlethan on the Burley Griffin Way, in a landscape characterised by open plains given over to dryland cereal crops, sheep, and wool production. At the 2021 Census, Kamarah recorded a population of 83 residents, making it one of the smaller communities in the Riverina, spread across a considerable land area of around 180 square kilometres.
The surrounding district is quintessentially agricultural, with properties producing wheat, canola, and fine wool along with some sheep grazing. The nearby Burley Griffin Way provides the main road connection, with the service town of Ardlethan offering basic amenities, while the larger regional centre of Narrandera — the shire seat — is approximately 60 kilometres to the west. Kamarah and the neighbouring hamlet of Moombooldool share a close community history linked to the old grain rail line. Life here revolves around farming, rural community ties, and the wide open spaces of the New South Wales Riverina.
Kamarah falls under postcode 2665 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Murray electorate.
