About Karoola
Karoola is a rural locality situated approximately 26 kilometres north of Launceston in the City of Launceston local government area, in the Northern region of Tasmania. Covering about 32 square kilometres of rolling farmland and bushland, the locality had a population of approximately 349 residents at the 2021 Census. Formerly known as Turners Marsh Lower, Karoola was officially gazetted under its current name in 1963 — derived from the Aboriginal name for the Pipers River, which flows through the locality from south-east to north.
Karoola lies on the fringe of Tasmania's Pipers River wine region, a cool-climate zone celebrated for premium sparkling wine and pinot noir. The surrounding landscape features gentle hillsides, orchards, and vineyards characteristic of northern Tasmania's agricultural hinterland. Residents rely on nearby Lilydale and Launceston for schools, shopping, and services, with the city easily accessible via the main northern arterial roads. The locality appeals to those seeking a quiet rural lifestyle within commuting distance of Launceston, Tasmania's second-largest city.
Karoola falls under postcode 7267 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Bass (Windermere) electorate.
