About Khosh Bulduk
Khosh Bulduk is a small and remote rural locality in Central Queensland, situated approximately 900 kilometres north-west of Brisbane near the town of Emerald in the Central Highlands. The locality covers around 257 square kilometres of open grazing country and recorded a population of approximately 60 residents at the 2021 Census. The name is of Afghan origin and reflects the region's historical connection to the Afghan camel drivers who traversed the Australian outback in the 19th century.
Emerald, approximately 60 kilometres to the south, serves as the main service centre for the Central Highlands, providing a hospital, schools, supermarkets, and an airport. The region is a major producer of gemstones — Emerald is near the Sapphire gemfields, one of the world's most prolific sapphire mining areas. A private vehicle is essential as there is no public transport.
Khosh Bulduk falls under postcode 4723 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Gregory electorate.
