About Ladysmith
Ladysmith is a small village approximately 19 kilometres east of Wagga Wagga in the Riverina region of New South Wales, within the City of Wagga Wagga local government area. With a population of 339 at the 2021 Census and spread across around 80 square kilometres, the village has a quiet rural character set among the gently rolling farmland typical of the southern Riverina. The locality sits at an elevation of 233 metres above sea level and was formerly known as Alfredtown before being renamed in honour of local community figure Sarah Ann Smith.
Ladysmith is home to a notable railway heritage precinct centred on the historic station from the former Wagga Wagga to Tumbarumba line, which is maintained by the Ladysmith Tourist Railway group and offers rail trike rides on a section of the preserved track. The village features a memorial hall, historic church, and the charm typical of small Riverina communities with deep colonial-era roots. Wagga Wagga — one of regional NSW's largest cities — is only a 20-minute drive away, providing residents with easy access to a full range of shopping, health, education, and entertainment services.
Ladysmith falls under postcode 2652 and is governed by the Wagga Wagga Council (Local Government Area). For federal elections, residents vote in the electorate of Riverina, while state elections fall under the Wagga Wagga electorate.
