Lamb Island is a small island locality in Redland City, Queensland, situated in the southern reaches of Moreton Bay between the Queensland mainland and North Stradbroke Island, approximately 47 kilometres south-east of Brisbane CBD. With a population of 504 at the 2021 Census across a compact area of just 1.4 square kilometres, it is one of the Southern Moreton Bay Islands — a cluster of islands accessible only by passenger ferry from Redland Bay or Victoria Point. The island lies within the Moreton Bay Marine Park and offers a unique island community lifestyle rarely found so close to a major Australian capital city.
Lamb Island has a rich history of food production stretching back to the early 1900s, when its fertile volcanic soil and unique microclimate supported market gardens that supplied produce to the Brisbane mainland market. 🛣️ Passenger ferry is the only access to the island. Car barge is not available on Lamb Island. A car parked on the mainland is practical for Brisbane commuters.
The island is small and walkable within itself, but ferry transport is needed to reach mainland services, shops, and employment.
