About Majors Creek
Majors Creek is a small historic village in the Southern Tablelands region of New South Wales, perched at an elevation of approximately 700 metres around 16 kilometres south of Braidwood and 103 kilometres south-east of Canberra. It falls within the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council and recorded a population of 290 at the 2021 Census. The locality was established in 1851 during the gold rush era and retains strong heritage character through its nineteenth-century buildings and the surrounding bush landscape of the Budawang Range foothills. The area lies in the St Vincent County and has long attracted those drawn to its quiet, elevated countryside.
Majors Creek is cherished by artists, smallholders, and weekenders who value its heritage atmosphere, cool-climate gardens, and proximity to the Braidwood arts and food scene. The annual Majors Creek Folk Festival draws visitors from across the region. Day-to-day necessities are sourced from Braidwood (16 km), which offers supermarkets, schools, and medical services. There is no public transport serving the village, so a private vehicle is essential. The surrounding landscape of granite outcrops, tall eucalypt forest, and creek valleys makes it popular for bush walking, horse riding, and nature photography.
Majors Creek falls under postcode 2622 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the South Coast electorate.
