About Marrar
Marrar is a small country town in the Riverina region of New South Wales, situated within Coolamon Shire approximately 37 kilometres north of Wagga Wagga and 15 kilometres east of Coolamon. Set at an elevation of about 298 metres on the Canola Way — a scenic farming route through south-west NSW — the town covers a large rural area of 171 square kilometres and recorded a population of 363 at the 2021 Census. The township dates from the early twentieth century, with Marrar Post Office established in 1902.
Marrar lies in the heart of a productive wheat and canola farming district, and the surrounding paddocks are a hallmark of Riverina agriculture. The Royal Hotel is a focal point for the local community, and the town has a notable tradition of Australian rules football — unusual for New South Wales — reflecting the unique cultural character of this part of the Riverina.
