About Minimay
Minimay is a remote rural locality in the far west of Victoria, situated approximately 30 kilometres north-west of Kaniva in the West Wimmera Shire council area. Covering an extensive 276 square kilometres, the locality lies in the open mallee and saltbush country of the Victorian–South Australian border region, where broadacre cereal farming and sheep grazing define the landscape. With a population of around 64 residents, Minimay is one of the most sparsely populated localities in Victoria, with vast paddocks and wide skies defining the local character.
The locality is close to the South Australian border and the Big Desert Wilderness Park, one of Victoria's most remote conservation areas featuring pristine mallee scrub and sand dunes. Kaniva, to the south-east, provides a supermarket, primary and secondary schools, and community facilities. Minimay suits those engaged in broadacre farming who are drawn to the vast, uncrowded landscapes of Victoria's far western mallee.
Minimay falls under postcode 3413 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Lowan (Western Victoria) electorate.
