Mount Rivers is a small rural locality in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, situated approximately 230 kilometres north of Sydney near the town of Scone in the Upper Hunter. The locality covers around 32 square kilometres and recorded a population of approximately 60 residents at the 2021 Census. The area occupies the Liverpool Ranges foothills, characterised by rolling grazing country and horse studs typical of the Upper Hunter.
Scone, approximately 15 kilometres to the south-east, is Australia's horse capital and provides a hospital, schools, shops, and a rail station on the Main North Line. The Upper Hunter Valley is world-renowned for thoroughbred horse breeding, coal mining, and the scenic Moonan Gorge country. A private vehicle is essential as no public transport serves Mount Rivers.
