About Muli Muli
Muli Muli is a small Aboriginal community locality situated midway between the villages of Woodenbong and Urbenville in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, approximately 6 kilometres from each. Covering less than a square kilometre on a north-facing hill, the locality recorded a population of 90 in the 2021 Census, with the majority of residents of Githabul tribal descent. The community falls within the Kyogle Council local government area and is surrounded by the hinterland country of the NSW–Queensland border ranges.
Muli Muli is home to the Muli Muli Local Aboriginal Land Council, which plays a central role in community governance and land management. The Githabul people have a significant cultural presence here, with living oral traditions and connections to the land that were formally recognised through the Githabul Native Title agreement signed in 2007 — the first time in NSW that a local Aboriginal group successfully proved continued practice of traditional laws and culture. Children attend schools in Woodenbong and Urbenville, while residents travel to Woodenbong or Kyogle for essential services and supplies.
Muli Muli falls under postcode 2476 and is governed by the Kyogle Council (Local Government Area). For federal elections, residents vote in the electorate of Page, while state elections fall under the Lismore electorate.
