About Murrumbucca
Murrumbucca is a small rural locality in the Snowy Monaro region of southern New South Wales, situated approximately 6 kilometres north of Cooma within the Snowy Monaro Regional Council area. Spread across 152 square kilometres of high-country pastoral land, the locality recorded a population of 82 at the 2021 Census. Its position in the Monaro tablelands places it at elevations typical of the region's open grasslands, which have supported wool and beef production for generations.
The locality is primarily a working grazing district, with the open Monaro plains supporting sheep and cattle farming across large pastoral holdings. Cooma, the main regional centre of the Monaro, is a short drive away and provides residents with shops, schools, healthcare, and connections to the Snowy Mountains via the Snowy Mountains Highway. The broader region is known for its crisp climate, wide skies, and proximity to the Snowy Mountains and Kosciuszko National Park, offering access to skiing, trout fishing, and alpine activities for those who live in the area.
Murrumbucca falls under postcode 2630 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Monaro electorate.
