About Nantawarra
Nantawarra is a small rural locality on the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia, covering approximately 97 square kilometres of open cereal cropping and grazing country east of Maitland in the central-northern part of the peninsula. Situated within the Yorke Peninsula Council area, the locality occupies a typical mid-Yorke Peninsula farming landscape of flat to gently undulating plains supporting wheat, barley, and legume crops alongside sheep grazing. With a population of around 67 residents, Nantawarra is a quiet agricultural community in a productive but sparsely settled part of the peninsula.
The town of Maitland, approximately 20 kilometres to the west, serves as the nearest service centre and provides a supermarket, school, hotel, and community facilities, while Kadina — one of the peninsula's main towns and part of the historic Copper Triangle — is approximately 35 kilometres to the north. The Yorke Peninsula's coastline, with its sheltered beaches, excellent fishing, and family camping at places such as Port Victoria and Stansbury, is accessible within 30 to 40 kilometres. Adelaide is approximately 140 kilometres to the south-east via the Yorke Highway, making Nantawarra a practical farming retreat within two hours of the capital.
Nantawarra falls under postcode 5550 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Narungga electorate.
