About Nietta
Nietta is a small rural locality in north-west Tasmania, situated in the hinterland approximately 35 kilometres south of Ulverstone and 45 minutes from the port city of Devonport. Covering around 60 square kilometres within the Central Coast Council area, the locality recorded a population of 63 at the 2021 Census. Nietta is set amid rolling agricultural land and forested ridges on the edge of the Tasmanian highlands, and is home to the remarkable Leven Canyon Reserve.
Leven Canyon Reserve is the locality's defining attraction — a free camping area at 820 Loongana Road that provides access to the deepest limestone ravine in Tasmania, where the Leven River plunges 275 metres below two dramatic lookout platforms. A 1.2-kilometre circuit track with 697 steps winds through cool temperate rainforest to cliff-edge viewpoints. Ulverstone and Devonport provide the nearest full range of services, making Nietta a peaceful base for those exploring north-west Tasmania's spectacular natural landscapes.
Nietta falls under postcode 7315 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Lyons (Montgomery) electorate.
