About Ninnes
Ninnes is a small rural locality on the Yorke Peninsula of South Australia, situated approximately 180 kilometres north-west of Adelaide within the Yorke Peninsula Council. Covering around 138 square kilometres of flat to gently rolling cereal cropping land, the locality lies on the upper Yorke Peninsula, one of South Australia's most productive wheat and barley growing regions. With a 2021 Census population of 65 residents, Ninnes is a quiet farming community in the heart of the Yorke Peninsula's agricultural zone.
The Yorke Peninsula is known as the 'bread basket of South Australia' for its prolific cereal cropping on the distinctive red-brown soils, and Ninnes reflects this agricultural identity with large-scale grain farming dominating the landscape. The small township of Kadina, approximately 30 kilometres to the north, provides the nearest comprehensive services — supermarkets, schools, and the celebrated Copper Coast heritage tourism of the old Kadina-Moonta-Wallaroo mining triangle. The Yorke Peninsula also offers excellent coastal recreation at Moonta Bay and Port Broughton, both within easy reach.
Ninnes falls under postcode 5560 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Narungga electorate.
