Nyngan is a rural town in the Orana region of central New South Wales, located approximately 576 kilometres north-west of Sydney and 167 kilometres north-west of Dubbo, on the banks of the Bogan River. Part of Bogan Shire, it had a population of 1,953 at the 2021 census, with a significant Aboriginal community making up about 20% of residents. The town sits at the junction of the Mitchell and Barrier Highways, making it an important regional waypoint in outback New South Wales.
