About Port Adelaide

Port Adelaide is a historic inner suburb located approximately 14 kilometres north-west of the Adelaide CBD, in the City of Port Adelaide Enfield LGA. Once the maritime heart of South Australia, the suburb has a population of around 4,500 and is defined by its rich colonial heritage, sandstone warehouses, and the working waterfront along the Port River estuary. The suburb retains strong Indigenous connections and was among the first European settlements in the state, founded in 1837.

Today Port Adelaide is undergoing a creative renaissance, with heritage buildings repurposed into galleries, breweries, restaurants, and boutique shops along Commercial Road and St Vincent Street. The precinct hosts the South Australian Maritime Museum, the Port Adelaide Football Club, and regular markets, making it a growing destination for day-trippers and young professionals. A diverse, working-class community coexists with an emerging arts scene, giving the suburb a gritty yet vibrant character that distinguishes it from Adelaide's southern suburbs.

Port Adelaide falls under postcode 5015 and is governed by Port Adelaide Enfield Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Port Adelaide electorate.
