About Reid
Reid is a compact residential suburb in the Town of Gawler local government area, situated in Adelaide's outer northern corridor approximately 40 kilometres north of the Adelaide CBD. Established in 2004 when it was excised from the neighbouring suburb of Gawler West, Reid is one of the smaller localities in the Gawler area, covering just 0.56 square kilometres and bounded by the Gawler bypass road, the Gawler River, and the Gawler-Roseworthy railway line. With a 2021 Census population of 436, the suburb is a quietly positioned community on the fringe of the historic Gawler township.
Reid sits adjacent to the township of Gawler, which offers supermarkets, schools, medical facilities, restaurants, and train services to Adelaide CBD on the Gawler Line. The Gawler River provides a natural buffer along the suburb's edge, and easy access to the Gawler bypass makes it convenient for road commuters heading north towards the Barossa Valley or south into Adelaide. The suburb appeals to residents seeking affordability and accessibility within a well-established regional town setting, with the world-renowned Barossa Valley wine region accessible within a short drive.
Reid falls under postcode 5118 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Schubert electorate.
