About Rokeby

Rokeby is an outer eastern suburb of Hobart located 8 kilometres from the CBD on the Derwent River's eastern shore, within the City of Clarence. With a population of approximately 4,200, the suburb was developed in the 1970s as a mainly public housing area, modelled after American housing projects. Originally farmland known as Clarence Plains, it takes its name from Rokeby House, a 19th-century farmhouse.

The suburb has experienced significant transformation as increasing home ownership and Hobart's property boom have brought new demographics and investment. Historic features include a traditional cricket ground and the Rokeby Historic Trail, while the renowned skate park has hosted national and international competitions. The Tasmania Police Academy is located here. Rokeby attracts first-home buyers and families seeking affordable housing close to Hobart, with improving community facilities and strong local identity.

Rokeby falls under postcode 7019 and is governed by Clarence Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Franklin (Rumney) electorate.
