About Safety Bay

Safety Bay is a coastal suburb in Perth's southern corridor, located 50 kilometres from the CBD within the City of Rockingham. With a population of 7,662, this established beachside community takes its name from the sheltered cove that surveyor John Septimus Roe identified in 1837 as 'a safe, well protected boat anchorage'. The suburb developed from the 1930s as a popular holiday destination.

Today Safety Bay offers an enviable coastal lifestyle with calm, family-friendly beaches on Warnbro Sound. The Shoalwater Islands Marine Park provides opportunities to see dolphins, sea lions, and the famous Penguin Island colony. Local shops, cafes, and boat-launching facilities serve the community. Safety Bay attracts families, retirees, and water sports enthusiasts who appreciate the relaxed coastal atmosphere, excellent schools, and lower prices compared to nearby Rockingham.

Safety Bay falls under postcode 6169 and is governed by Rockingham Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Rockingham electorate.
