Salter Springs is a small rural locality in the Mid North region of South Australia, situated approximately 120 kilometres north of Adelaide near the wine town of Auburn in the Clare Valley foothills. The locality covers around 86 square kilometres and recorded a population of approximately 59 residents at the 2021 Census. The area features the transitional farming country between the Clare Valley and the Hill River plains, used for cereal cropping and mixed grazing.
Auburn, approximately 15 kilometres to the north, is a charming heritage township and gateway to the Clare Valley Wine Trail, providing a general store, hotel, school, and community facilities. Clare, roughly 25 kilometres further north, is the main regional service centre. The area is within reach of both the Clare Valley wine region and the outskirts of the Adelaide Hills.
