About Sunset
Sunset is a residential suburb of Mount Isa in outback North West Queensland, situated approximately 5 kilometres west of the Mount Isa city centre. With a population of around 2,100 residents across just under 2 square kilometres, it is one of the more established outer residential areas of the Mount Isa urban area. The suburb falls within the Mount Isa City Council local government area and is largely characterised by post-war housing stock on generous suburban blocks.
Residents of Sunset enjoy a close-knit outback community lifestyle with proximity to the facilities and services of Mount Isa, including the Mount Isa Mines — one of the world's largest underground copper, silver, lead, and zinc mining operations. The suburb has quiet streets and is popular with mining families and long-term Mount Isa residents who value the space and affordability of outer suburban living. Recreational options include the nearby Sunset Dam, the Mount Isa Rodeo grounds, and easy access to the red rock outback landscape that surrounds the city.
Sunset falls under postcode 4825 and is governed by the Mount Isa Council (Local Government Area). For federal elections, residents vote in the electorate of Kennedy, while state elections fall under the Traeger electorate.
