Toogong is a small historic village in the Central West of New South Wales, located approximately 50 kilometres west of Orange and within the Cabonne Council local government area. Toogong's name is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning 'dried-up lake', reflecting the area's deep connection to the land and its long-settled pastoral history.
Toogong holds a proud place in Australian aviation history as the birthplace of Hazelton Airlines — founded in 1953 by Max Hazelton operating charter flights from a local property — which eventually evolved into Rex Airlines, now one of Australia's major regional carriers. The surrounding land is classic Central West farming country, with grazing properties stretching across the gentle hills between Orange and Cowra. The closest service centre is Canowindra, roughly 20 kilometres to the south, while Orange provides full urban amenities approximately 50 kilometres to the north-east.
